Horsforth School......15
Benton Park...........12
THANKS to excellent defensive work and their speedy back line Horsforth were able to overcome a spirited challenge from Benton Park in the quarter-finals of the Under-13 Yorkshire Cup.
Benton took the early lead capitalising on some uncharacteristic Horsforth mistakes and were 12-0 up within 15 minutes thanks to tries by Nathan Benton and Liam McGee and a conversion by Thomas Cliffe.
Horsforth then bounced back with a magnificent solo try by Adam Robson to make the half-time score 12-5. The first 20 minutes of the second- half were all Horsforth and the pressure paid off with further tries by Alex Atkinson and Paul Colley.
Benton mounted a last gasp effort to score but were held out by some excellent defence, including a try-saving tackle by Harry Scurrah, and the match finished with a 15-12 victory to Horsforth.
Horsforth will now take part in the Yorkshire Cup Finals day on March 21 at Otley RUFC.
