In the last two weeks Rosie Whiting, a year 13 student at Ilkley Grammar School and a member of Bradford Esprit Diving Club, has been selected for both senior and junior diving internationals.

At the British Diving Championships held at Sheffield in February she qualified for the British leg of the FINA Grand Prix to be held in Manchester from March 16-18, by winning the silver medal in the three metre synchronised diving competition, along with her new partner, Jane Smith from Sheffield.

Jane is the British champion on both one metre and three metre boards, an Olympian and the winner of TV's Gladiators series.

In the one metre springboard event Rosie dived well and was in third place going into the final but finished in fourth place overall winning the bronze medal in the junior section of the competition, just one point behind Rebecca Burrows of Leeds.

In the three metre springboard event Rosie was sixth and again won the bronze medal in the junior competition.

Her team mate, Oliver Murley from Guiseley, also competed at the British Nationals and qualified for the finals on highboard and one metre. On highboard he finished sixth and on one metre he was the junior bronze medal winner.

He and his Bradford Esprit partner Fito Gutierrez, winner of the men's one metre event, competed in the men's three metre synchro event and picked up the bronze medal.

Both Rosie and Oliver competed last weekend in the Six Nations trials at Huddersfield Sports Centre.

The competition is held on one and three metre springboard, and the scores on each board added together to give a total score for the competition. They both dived well, Oliver gaining two fourth places, and missing out on selection by just two places, while Rosie dived consistently to finish second on both boards and to qualify in overall second place to represent Great Britain in the 16-18 girls' event at the Six Nations Youth Meet in Dresden, Germany, at the end of the month.
