A disabled bride-to-be is set to celebrate her big day in style, thanks to generous Telegraph & Argus readers.

Joy Steele, of Heaton, had been struggling to find an affordable reception venue for her summer wedding which could cater for her wheelchair.

But following an appeal in the T&A, she has been inundated with offers, ranging from a free function room in Wibsey to a wedding dress.

Joy, who is to marry Richard Gartside at Idle Holy Trinity Church on June 30, called the response to the story fantastic.

She said: "I'm just amazed by how wonderful everybody is. The phone was burning hot on the Friday night. Somebody even phoned us up and offered a mobile karaoke machine!

"I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who responded. We've been to see the hotel and there's a big, long ramp and disabled toilets - it's got everything. We're really pleased."

Joy, who recently moved from Northampton to join Richard in Bradford, has used a wheelchair since injuring her back in an accident at work.

She is determined to walk down the aisle in church, but needed a reception venue with easy access for herself and her future mother-in-law, who has multiple sclerosis.

Her dilemma was solved by Wibsey businessman Peter Kearns, who offered her and Richard a function room at the newly refurbished Holroyds House Hotel and accommodation for their wedding night.

Mr Kearns said he had followed stringent planning guidelines for disabled access while extending the old manor house.

"When we saw their plight, we just thought that we had the facilities to help them," he said. "It's a little wedding present."

Staff at Cottage Bridal in Undercliffe are also fitting Joy with a special wedding dress which can be worn in a wheelchair.
