Underdogs Cleckheaton have received a twin boost ahead of their Intermediate Cup semi-final against Old Patesians at Chelten-ham tomorrow.

Phil Veivers is at fly half to replace the unavailable Graham Steadman, and experienced prop Sam Coy has recovered from a rib injury.

Initially it was thought that experienced front-rower Coy would miss the tie after he was helped off the field last Saturday in Cleckheaton's top-of-the-table Yorkshire Division One victory over Wheatley Hills.

Skipper John Bentley, who missed last weekend's match with a calf strain, returns, as does hamstring- strain victim Neil Gillan at flanker.

No 8 Craig West is the only member of the starting back-row to survive as Darren Fletcher is cup-tied and Ricky Hunter has dropped to the bench to make way for Gillan.

Former Sheffield player Matt Wood, who came on last week when Coy went off injured, earns a starting berth alongside West and Gillan.

Cleckheaton's first team manager Mick Collins said: "We have plenty of cover on the bench if anything goes wrong." As for his side's chances of reaching the Twickenham finale on April 21, Collins said: "We have seen Patesians on video this week in what was a poor game. They are very agg-ressive in the forwards, but we feel that if we play well we will win."

The semi-final has rather overshadowed a match the Bees players have been looking forward to for several weeks - the visit of North Division One leaders Darlington Mowden Park to Wagon Lane.

"Mowden Park are an extremely good side who haven't lost in the league last season or this," said Bees coach Matt Greenwood.

"But whatever happens I am sure we will give a good account of ourselves, and much will depend on whether my team truly believe they can do it."

Wharfedale's travelling support to West Hartlepool in National League Two will doubtless be swelled by the prospect of fly half David Pears teaming up with talents like Andy Hodgson and Gareth Johnson in the centre.

Keighley, at Ripon in Yorkshire Division One, are without props Paul Sinfield and Rob Riley long-term because of work. John Duffy and Richard Leach replace them, Duncan Walsh coming into the second row. Tony Fella returns to the centre, Kevin Young coming in on the wing.

Bradford Salem are without prop James Fitch (broken scaphoid) and Richard Moorhouse (medial ligament) for their must-win home derby against Ilkley in Yorkshire Two. Andy Dalton is on the wing. Lock Chris Holt returns for Baildon at home to Mosborough in Yorkshire Four.
