The sound of the Bronts will herald the restoration of a historic organ in a Haworth church. A £25,000 project to refurbish the pipe organ at West Lane Baptist Church is due to begin next month.

A concert to mark the beginning of the work will feature songs from a new musical about the Bront sisters.

The songs will be performed by Brighouse School students on April 6 and 7 at the invitation of the theatre group based in the church.

Haworth West Lane Baptist Amateur Operatic Society performs a Gilbert and Sullivan show and a concert each year.

This year members have invited the school to reprise numbers performed during the world premiere of the musical Bells.

The show, created by Saltaire writer Eddie Lawler and winner of a Yorkshire Playwrights award, is named after the pseudonym used by the Bronts for their novels and poems.

It follows modern-day schoolchildren on a field trip in Haworth who experience a spiritual visitation by the Bront family during a violent storm.

Brighouse School took up Mr Lawler's offer to stage the first production of the musical, performing it to great success last year.

The Baptist amateurs will perform a songs from the shows concert as the second half of the April 6 and 7 show, titled "I Have a Song to Sing O".

Songs will be from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas as well as musicals from past and present, including Les Miserables.

Tickets are on sale at Haworth Tourist Information Centre and the information centre in Keighley Town Hall.
