Twenty out of twenty this week has given Embassy 'A' a perfect vision of the Championship trophy in the Keighley & District Table Tennis League.

After they whitewashed both Lothersdale 'B' and Nemesis. Only Lothersdale 'A' can pip the leaders, but they would need a record breaking haul of 33 points from their remaining 4 matches to do so. At home to Lothersdale 'B' the champions elect showed just why they have been so impressive this season with an imaculate display from Carl White, Matthew Mellor and Neil Foley. David Galley got close against White, slipping up 19-21, 21-8, 21-12, but Mellor's 21-7, 21-11 defeat of Martin Connolly and Foley's win against Peter Midgley, 21-11, 21-12, emphasised the gulf in class.

Away at Nemesis, with Andrew Crabtree and David White coming in for Carl White and Mellor, the Bingley team used the strength in depth of their squad system to earn another full house. John Rawnsley did well to restrict White to 16-21, 21-13, 21-16, as did Mark Baker against Neil Foley (21-12, 16-21, 21-14), but the remaining rubbers were gift wrapped to the rampant visitors with barely a whimper from the already relegated Nemesis boys.

With Embassy 'B' leading the pack in Division Two could it be a double celebration for the Bingley club at the end of the season? Not if Oakbank Juniors can help it. Trailling the leaders by seven points but with two still to play they look favourites to win the title, especially considering that Embassy 'B's one remaining fixture is away to Ilkley Road 'A', always a tough proposition at fortress Riddlesden. Oakbank visited Johnson & Johnson and registered a comfortable 7-3 success to set them up for the final run in. Gareth Wiles did the business once more with Vince Ferran getting closest to the star, going down 21-10, 21-19. Katie Lightowler and Nick Clegg chipped in with a couple each, the latter's 21-15, 21-15 defeat of Ferran being particularly good. The Gargrave team's points came from John Pullen and a doubles win for Pullen and Ferran, 21-16, 21-23, 21-8 against Wiles and Lightowler.

This was the only hiccough in an otherwise good few days for J & J who registered 6-4 wins away at relegated Bhoys and, crucially, away at fellow strugglers Terriers 'B'. A maximum from John Pullen and a couple from Vince Ferran that included a 21-15, 16-21, 21-15 success against Steve Wands, look to have almost assured Division Two status for their team. Paul Lister, with a 21-8, 21-18 defeat of Derek Stanforth and 13-21, 21-19, 21-17 win against Ferran, did his best for the Terriers but they look favourites to join the Bhoys in Division Three next term. Even though they are 11 points ahead of second bottom Cononley Sports, the sportsmen have three matches in hand over the hospital team.

If Old Skiptonians maintain their improvement in to next season's Division Three campaign they may just be a good bet for promotion. There first eight matches yielded a mere 34 points, but an improvement of 25% in their next eight has given proof of their rapid improvement. A crushing 8-2 away defeat of Lothersdale 'C' provided a watershed in the career of Diane Bloomfield who notched her first ever maximum with a 21-9, 21-12 win against Nick Hart, a 22-20, 21-12 defeat of Paul Griffin and, best of all, a superb 20-22, 21-19, 21-16 success against Tom Fawcett. A treble from Richard Crookes, a 17-21, 21-12, 21-15 Maria Simpson defeat of Hart and a win in the doubles for Crookes and Simpson completed the scoring for the up and coming team from Sandylands.
