Keighley Town 20

St Josephs 6

Keighley Town returned to Pennine League Action against Huddersfield side St Josephs and turned in another promising performance to beat the Huddersfield side by 20 points to 6.

Town opened the scoring when St Josephs were penalised under Town's posts for incorrect play of the ball and quick thinking James Shaw took the play towards the half way line. Gary Marples continued the momentum before handing on to the supporting Andy Stokes to score under the posts to leave Neil Kennedy a simple conversion.

A great defensive effort from Town, together with aggressive running from props Ian Barnes and Naheem Anwar, saw Town extend their lead when back row forwards Daz Lynam and Rocky McNulty combined and McNulty crossed out wide.

St Josephs were never going to lie down and twice they were denied as they tested Town's defence, their big forwards were held up over the line, but pressure told and a converted try just before the break put St Josephs back in the game.

Town's forwards set the platform for their backs to create more space and they extended their lead when scrum half Neil Kennedy put Gary Marples into a gap and the full back outpaced the defence to score under the posts and Kennedy added the extras. Town made sure of victory when after constant pressure on the visitor's line Rocky McNulty put winger Jamie Benn in at the corner.

In what was a solid all round performance from Town, their defence was dominant with James Shaw superb. Skipper Daz Lynam picked up the man of the match award leading Town from the front.

Tomorrow Town travel to Crigglestone and must show the same commitment.
