All games in the Wharfedale Sunday Association Football League programme were played this week and basement side Malt Shovel of the First Division were at home to Division leaders Bay Horse in the first leg of the New Bridge Sunday Cup.

They showed a lot of spirit although they lost but Bay Horse did not have it all their own way. Dave Gatenby gave the home side the lead as Malt Shovel played excellent football but the leaders levelled through Andy Thornton. It was entertaining and a draw looked on the cards but true to form Bay Horse scored with eight minutes left on the clock and the hero was Lee Thornton who saved Horses blushes as Malt Shovel had at times out played them but it is all to play for in the second leg.

Also high flying Woodend Rovers had an easy game over Baildon New Inn who had no answer to the power of Woodend and after an own goal things went from bad to worse as they lost 9-2 with Johnny Barber and Steve Goodsell getting what was to be consolation goals for them.

In the New Bridge Senior Cup Keighley Juniors and Victoria Hotel had a ten goal thriller which ended with Juniors running out 8-2 winners. Peter Bousfield and Chris Fothergill both scored for Victoria Hotel and next week both sides play each other in the District Cup.

In the Premier Division Royal Hotel chalked up their third win of the season after beating Boltmakers Arms. Dave Akrigg gave Boltmakers the lead but Royal soon levelled through Spencer Harrison and then Steve George hit two to give Royal a half-time lead of 3-1 and after the break George started as he finished the first and completed his hat trick and then he got his head to a Nick Fewell cross to seal the game.

Leaders Stanbury Park Rangers hit Victoria 2000 for eight in reply to two. Sloppy play and good finishing was the tale of this game and the good finishing took the points with David Bainbridge leading the way with a hat-trick and Simon Waddington scoring two penalties. Michael Thompson also scored twice and Chris Smith added the other with D O'Nal and Adi Yates replying for Victoria 2000.

In the first division Broadford Plant and New Inn Windhill had to settle for a share of the points after a 3-3 draw. New Inn lead at half time 2-1 with goals coming from Richard Scanlon and Matthew Atkinson but Broadford Plant fought back, Andrew Howland scored New Inn's third.
