THE FELLSMAN HIKE which was due to take place on May 12 and 13 has been cancelled becasue fo the Foot & Mounth outbreak.
The gruelling 61-mile high-level walk was due to celbrate its 40th anniversary this year with hundreds of walkers and runners due to take part. The event starts from Ingleton and passes over tough moorland terrain and finishes at Threshfield near Grassington.
"We rely on the goodwill of farmers who allow us to walk over private land and will not do anything to risk spreading the disease," said organiser Godfrey Allen.
A 40th reunion to be held at Keighley Rugby Union Club is to go ahead.
