OVER 10,000 free tickets have been presented to school children as Cougars prepare for a bumper Children's Day on Sunday.

Schoolchildren throughout the district have been invited to the game with Barrow Border Raiders. There will be a poster competition for younger children and a goal-kicking competition for older fans.

There will also be a bumper balloon race with £50 for the winning school and a signed Cougar shirt for the 'owner' whose balloon travels farthest.

Steve Deaking has launched a campaign to sign new young players and Joe Berry, a former club favourite, has rejoined the Cougars. He is expected to be the first of a number of signings.

Danny Horne, of Silsden Park Rangers starred in Wednesday evenings A team game, scoring a hat-trick of tries, performing with such skill that he must be on the list targeted by Deakin. Other tries were scored by Simeonovich, Stuart Calvert and Chris Ross as they raced to a 40-4 victory.

Impressive prop David Best also scored and looks close to getting a call to the senior team. Luke Sellars, who has returned from a year in Australia also completed his third game.

Daio Powell is set to return to the first team for Sunday's game after recovering from a shoulder injury. His replacement Karl Smith also suffered a shoulder injury in last weekend's game at Workington.

Scrum half Craig Murdock has returned to light training after sustaining a back injury in a work accident, but he will not be ready for action for at least two weeks.

"Barrow are a very hard side and will offer a stern test, but if we do the business like we did at Workington, then we should take the points," Deakin said.

Barrow could be without loose forward Gary Charlton, who suffered a head injury in their win over Doncaster, while prop Wayne Jones will be out of action for at least a month following a knee operation.

Chris Whiteley, who returned to the club last week after a long spell out of the game, could be coach Paul Charlton's shock choice.
