A label producing firm from Bradford has beaten off international competition to win a major new contract.

The Label Makers, based in Prince Street, Dudley Hill, has secured a contract to produce half a million label sets for a new South African wine range.

The company's team has worked closely with the importers, wine label designers and Spanish paper producers to come up with a distinctive look for False Bay wines.

The three different label sets it produced all won approval from the Cape based company, and are being printed in the UK before being shipped out to South Africa for bottling.

Sales director Kevin Lyons said the deal could be a sign of things to come.

"As a company we are finding that the wine label market is proving to be an important growth sector," he said.

"More and more importers and supermarket buyers are appreciating the benefits of having a home based label printer.

"Being close at hand we offer not just complete control of both design and production, but also a choice of print combinations to cope with even the most demanding specifications."

The Label Makers, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, employs more than 70 people and earlier this year picked up a Gold Award in the FINAT International Labelling Competition.

The firm, which hopes to make further inroads into the market when it attends the Wines and Spirits Fair in London in May, also enjoyed some cheeky wine-based success in February.

A label design by the company was used for a new range of imported Chardonnay, Rude Boy, at Sainsbury's stores to spice up this year's Valentine's Day celebrations.
