West Bowling lost 17-13 at home to local rivals Siddal in a thrilling end-to-end Division One encounter of the highest quality.

Injury-hit Bowling took an early lead with a Peter Simpson penalty but this was soon cancelled out with an identical effort from wingman Dave Holmes.

Glenn Barraclough's boys shook the visitors on quarter time when they took a surprise tap from a penalty and quick hands found second row forward Simon Owen on the burst as he powered to the posts. Simpson added the extras to open a 10-2 advantage.

The Halifax side landed a penalty and then took advantage of a Bowling gaff with half time beckoning. An innocuous kick to the corner was taken by wingman Chris Scott who then took the wrong option of attacking the touchline side and was bundled into touch.

The ball was moved smartly from the scrum to Siddal centre Damian Pickles who scored. A Simpson penalty and a drop goal from stand off Shaun Fallon gave Bowling a degree of breathing space at 13-8 but Siddal counter-attacked strongly with a try, a drop goal and two penalties to take the spoils.

Keighley Albion completed a Division Two double at Milford Marlins, winning 32-14 despite making a poor start when they lost Leigh Stridd in only the second minute with a knee injury.

While Albion were reorganising they were caught offside and Marlins' prop David Bray kicked the goal to give them a two-point lead.

But Dean Brookes kicked a goal to tie up the scores after ten minutes when the home side were penalised.

Cameron picked up a clever Jon Gwillam chip through to score by the posts after 23 minutes and Dean Brookes added the conversion.

From the restart Albion were straight back in attack and Neil Jordan went 20 metres before putting Tony Fretwell in for a well taken try wide out, Brookes again adding the goal to make it 14-2 after 26 minutes. A further penalty goal on the half hour extended that lead.

The Marlins hit back and Chris Smith dived on a loose ball in the corner for a try. This had been a good half for Albion that had seen Milford's rugged defence fail to ruffle Albion's open, expansive game. The home side was never able to contain Cameron Liddle's elusive running.

Keighley were forced to play up the middle of the pitch for a while after the break, but a 40m break out of defence by Cameron Liddle saw Tony Fretwell put Chris Hogg in for an excellent long range try.

Then the Marlins had their purple patch, scoring two tries in four minutes, both unconverted.

Albion were stung into reply and Jon Gwillam scored a try, converted by Brookes before Martin Fryers put Ed Billings over for a well executed try. In the last minute Brookes rounded it all off with a penalty goal.

Next week Albion face Blackbrook at Crossflatts (2.30pm).
