A jury has heard how riot police forced their way into a Bradford home and sprayed a man with CS spray.
Officers carrying shields struggled to overpower Matthew Perry after he lunged at one of them while holding two blades, Bradford Crown Court was told. He was sprayed in the face with CS spray twice before he was arrested during the incident in Tong Street in January last year.
Perry, 37, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of affray. The court heard how a friend became concerned about Perry's behaviour and called the police.
When an officer arrived at the property, he asked Perry to open the door but he allegedly refused.
Another seven officers then made their way to his house before some of them started putting on protective clothing and helmets.
Inspector Robert Southgate said he believed Perry was "deeply disturbed" and was going to harm himself or someone else. He said: "I'm totally convinced that he had a bladed instrument in each of his hands.''
Sgt David Hunter described how Perry lunged at him as officers were trying to enter the house.
He said he sprayed CS spray at Perry who initially staggered back, but it did not seem to work and he came back at him.
Perry was then sprayed once again, at which point four officers went into the premises and arrested Perry following a struggle.
The trial continues.
