Bradford truckers are coming under the spotlight in a police hunt for the killer of a young prostitute.

Detectives investigating the murder of 21-year-old Nicky Glass, whose body was discovered on the North Yorkshire Moors last November, said her murderer could well come from the city.

Nicky was last seen working in Middlesbrough six weeks before her naked body was found 20 miles away near the village of Danby.

Her clothes have never been found.

Detective Inspector Derek Carter, who is heading the case, said Nicky's clients - including lorry drivers from Yorkshire and Humberside - held the key to the inquiries.

"We are not ruling out the fact that the murderer came from Bradford and that could well be the case," said Det Insp Carter, of Cleveland Police's organised crime unit.

He said numerous appeals for drivers who knew Nicky to come forward with information had been met with a 'wall of silence'.

Clients and acquaintances needed to come forward to eliminate themselves from the inquiry and provide information which, unknowingly to them, could push the inquiry forward, he added.

But detectives stressed that their patience had run out and they would now begin knocking on drivers' doors.

He said the investigation team had names, registrations, telephone numbers and other information relating to Nicky's clients, many of them Yorkshire lorry drivers.

"We have given them every opportunity to get in touch in confidence," he said.

"Many have wives, partners and girlfriends and the last thing we wanted was to cause embarrassment to them.

"Our patience has run out and the gloves are off. We will be calling on them, if necessary at their homes."

Officers knew the likely domestic consequences of this but Det Insp Carter said: "Now the onus is on us to seek them out."

He said Vicky - who was 5ft 3 ins tall with fair hair - had turned to prostitution to fuel her drug habit.

A friend of hers told detectives that she had a lorry driver boyfriend and often disappeared with him for up to a week at a time.

Det Insp Carter said: "I think lorry drivers hold the key to Vicky's death and they should help.

"Vicky didn't deserve to die like this. She was only a kid," he added.

Vicky was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, light grey trousers and white trainers.
