A busy market may not be the most romantic setting in which to propose to your loved one.

But for Darren Challoner the Kirkgate Market in Bradford was perfect place to pop the question to his sweetheart Gemma Sedgely.

Darren, 24, of Shipley, who works on Smiley's bedding and towels stall, got down on one knee in front of fellow traders. And 19-year-old Gemma, of Sticker Lane, who works on the Top Gear jeans stall, luckily said yes.

"When I said 'yes' everyone clapped," she said. "It was a lovely moment."

Darren admitted he was nervous about proposing in public be said he wanted to do something a bit different.

"Because we met and work in the market it was the obvious choice," he said. "For us it will always be a very special place."
