An 86-year-old Bradford Council tenant is relieved she is to get a new boiler after her heating system broke down 20 times in the past two years.

Housebound Mary Moore, who lives in a ground-floor flat, said she had been left in the cold for almost all this winter.

In November she said she was without heating for about two weeks at her Lidget Green home, and in January she said it was three days before a Council engineer came out.

Then when it broke down again she was brought an electric heater by the Council until the boiler was repaired.

"It has been an ongoing problem for the past two years and I've had enough," said Miss Moore, who has osteoporosis and uses a wheelchair.

"There have been times when I've had to wait up to a week for someone to come out from the Council to mend it and I'm sick of it.

"I've been sitting here wearing three jumpers - I shouldn't have to live like this.

"I feel that I've been treated unfairly. I was confined to living in just one room because all I had was a plug-in heater which I couldn't move around."

Today Bradford Council apologised for her ongoing problem and said she would be getting a new boiler installed soon at her home in Walker Avenue.

A Council housing spokesman said: "We have been to check on Miss Moore's condition and have decided to replace her boiler as a matter of urgency.

"We must apologise to Miss Moore for the delay in resolving her heating problem."

Miss Moore said: "I'm pleased it's being sorted out because it is still quite cold at the moment. I was worried about getting hypothermia."
