A householder suffered a fractured cheekbone when he was punched by a drunken teenager during a late-night attack, a Court was told.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Andrew Preston had gone out to challenge a group of youths after one of them threw a stone into his garden.

Prosecutor Yunus Valli described how Mr Preston approached teenager James Dores and another young man and asked them why they were throwing stones.

Dores became abusive and as Mr Preston retreated to his house he followed him to his back door. When Mr Preston turned round the defendant punched him on the left side of his face, knocking him to the ground.

As Mr Preston shouted for his wife to call the police, Dores grabbed him again and hit him in the face. "This time he felt and heard a crack somewhere on his face,'' said Mr Valli.

Dores was abusive to Mr Preston's wife before he turned his attention to their car. "Using some sort of stone or brick, he proceeded to smash up the windscreen and another window,'' said Mr Valli.

Dores, 18, of Claremont Crescent, Wrose, was yesterday sentenced to three months in a young offenders institution after pleading guilty to charges of unlawful wounding and causing criminal damage.

During his police interview he admitted being drunk, but claimed that Mr Preston had hit him with a plank of wood.

Barrister Ben Crosland, for Dores, said his client had uncharacteristically drunk three quarters of a bottle of vodka that night. He said Dores lived about 200 yards from the complainant and had never caused him any trouble before.
