Guiseley Rangers........8

GUISELEY Rangers travelled to promotion contenders Queensbury last Saturday with only 13 players, but, as has happened with recent games, they didn't let themselves, or the club, down, and competed for the full 80 minutes.

Queensbury took early control of the game and soon had 20 points on the board, with a solitary penalty, converted by Steve Tait, being the visitors' only first-half reply. Defence was the order of the day for Rangers, and they certainly stuck to their task, restricting a very good home side to only three second-half tries before responding with a late try from second row Tim Cowling which Steve Tait converted. Once again, Rangers played well in adversity.

l On Saturday they are away to Calder Valley Rams. Players and supporters meet at the Yorkshire Rose at 12.30pm.

Last Sunday, the under-11's played away at Kings Cross, Halifax, and were well beaten by a much bigger team, their only score being a try from Benjamin Lee which was converted by Robert Butterfield. Rangers put on some good attacking play which didn't get the reward it deserved, but defence let them down badly. Still there were some positives from the game to be built upon, and a special mention is due to Liam Hancock, who did very well on his debut.

The under-8's also travelled to King Cross for a friendly fixture, and came out on top, scoring nine tries through Edwin Clement (3), Jonathan Bottomley (2), and Luke Exley, Dean Bowles Nathan Thompson and Harvey Marsden with one each. Conversions came from Dean Bowles, Jack Darwin, Jonathan Bottomley and Luke Exley.

l On Sunday, the under-11's are at home to Deighton, from Huddersfield, kicking off at Nunroyd at 11am. It is hoped to arrange a friendly for the under-8's. Will parents please contact the club secretary Dave Clayton.
