Andy Myers is backing Glenn Hoddle to do well at Spurs but wonders if the players might be trying too hard to create an impression on their new manager at White Hart Lane tonight.

City's central defender or left back, who played under Hoddle as a young player at Chelsea said: "It is only his second match in charge and his first at home so the players will be out to impress their new manager, but sometimes you can try too hard in that situation and that could happen to Spurs.

"They may be trying to do things that don't work."

Myers has nothing but praise for Hoddle's man- management and tactical skills.

He said: "He gets the best out of players. He knows their strengths and weaknesses and gets the players to work on them.

"He looked at what I was good at and what I wasn't good at and advocated certain things to improve my game and went round the whole team doing that.

"He had time for all the players because he wanted to bring the best out of them. That is shown in Southampton's form this season. There are some young players there and he has brought the best out of them. Tottenham will be good for him. He is going to be under pressure because people will expect a lot from him, but he has got great tactical awareness and management ability and I think he will do well there.

"We are under no pressure tonight. We will do our best as always. We are not expecting an easy game, but I don't think Tottenham will be either.

"We deserved to beat Manchester City and gave away a two goal lead against Newcastle and had to settle for 2-2 draws in both games.

"I think everyone believes that we accept we are relegated, but we don't accept we are down. Everyone does, but we don't. Mathematically it is there to do. We want to win not just for ourselves, but for the fans as well."
