Around 3,000 employees of Leeds-Bradford Airport could be among those using a new daily bus service which will drop them at the door.

Starting on April 30, a half-hourly Monday to Saturday daytime service will be introduced between Bradford Interchange and the airport, through services 647 and 651 - in a bid to attract more flyers and help workers. Service 647 will run via Apperley Bridge and Rawdon and service 651 will run via Shipley and Guiseley. Journey times will take approximately half an hour.

Speaking at Bradford Passenger Consultative Committee meeting, Philip Joyce from Metro said: "These services will help flight passengers and the 3,000 people who work in the airport, many of whom live in Guiseley and Yeadon."

Councillor Ann Ozolins (Lib Dem, Idle) said: "This is something we've pushed for - for a long time - and is a good step towards an integrated transport plan."

Metro is to hold a launch day on Thursday, April 26, in partnership with First Bradford and the airport company. It is hoped the new service will provide increased public transport accessibility to and from the airport for flight passengers and open up employment opportunities at the airport.

Currently a direct service runs between Bradford city centre and the airport only during the evening and on Sundays.

The airport approached Metro and said it wanted to explore ways of securing a Monday to Saturday daytime facility.

Following discussions with local ward members, First Bradford agreed to revise its commercial services to incorporate the airport.
