A NEW daily bus service running through the heart of Aireborough will serve more than 3,000 employees at Leeds-Bradford Airport, it was announced this week.

Starting on April 30, a half-hourly Monday to Saturday daytime service will be introduced between Bradford Interchange and the airport, through service 647 and 651 - in a bid to attract more flyers and help workers.

Service 647 will run via Apperley Bridge and Rawdon and service 651 will run via Shipley and Guiseley. Journey times will take about half an hour.

Speaking at yesterday's Bradford Consultative Committee meeting, Philip Joyce from Metro said: "These service will help flight passengers and the 3,000 people who work in the airport, many of whom live in Guiseley and Yeadon."

Councillor Ann Ozolins (Lib Dem, Idle) added: "This us something we've pushed for a long time and is a good step towards an

integrated transport plan."

Metro plan to hold a launch day on Thursday April 26 in partnership with First Bradford and the airport company. It is hoped the new service will provide increased public transport accessibility to and from the airport for flight passengers and open employment opportunities at the airport.

Currently, a direct service runs between Bradford city centre and the airport only during the evening and on Sundays.
