A housing company which came under fire for signs wrongly stating its luxury flats were in Saltaire rather than Shipley has been embroiled in further criticism.

Bradford Council planners claim the plans were not heeded and foundations for some of the Kirkgate flats have had to be redone.

But Paul Rider, managing director of Britannia Homes in Leeds, denied the foundations had been changed.

Last month Britannia Developments was forced to amend its advertisements for the apartments after claiming the location was Saltaire instead of Shipley.

The developers were accused by some residents of trying to cash in on the success of the world heritage site.

Now a resident claims the developers built some of the foundations a metre out.

The resident, who did not wish to be named, claimed: "Britannia did not follow the planning guidelines set out by the planning department after the original plans were not passed."

He said plans were believed to have been up to one metre out.

Mr Rider said: "We have not redone any foundations. There have been amendments made to the plans which have been accepted by the Council but everything is fine and going according to the programme.

"There is no problem. We are happy with the development."

But Bradford Council's principal planning officer Dale Scott said : "We investigated a couple of objections from local residents and discovered that the developers had not kept to their original plans.

"We informed Britannia Homes that they should stop work until the matter was sorted out as any future work was undertaken at their own risk.

"They have now submitted an amended scheme with some of the flats nearer the road, which we have approved.

"However, Britannia Homes have had to redo the foundations of three of the 26 flats nearest to the existing houses on Kirkgate. Residents were concerned they would block their view if they built nearer the road than the plans showed."

Neighbour Russell Andrew, 70, said the residents only objected to the plans being one metre out.

"We are quite happy about the flats being there because they look nice but there was a problem because Britannia were not sticking to the original plans. Now they have amended them we don't have any complaints," he said.
