Bradford City booked a final appearance at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff against Leyton Orient on Sunday week after a penalty shoot-out in their Football League Youth Alliance League Cup semi-final at Doncaster.

The home side had their plans disrupted as early as the fourth minute when they lost Paul Robinson with an ankle injury. He was replaced by Paul Jenkin who almost had an immediate impact when his first touch of the ball was headed over the bar.

The opening goal of the game came after 29 minutes from Doncaster's Robert Gill who turned with the ball and shot low past keeper Jon Worsnop. City's Andrew Lee had an opportunity to level the scores when the ball rebounded to Jones who crossed to Lee in the area but his shot had no power and was cleared to safety.

After 42 minutes Gill increased Doncaster's lead when City goalkeeper Worsnop called for the ball but was beaten to it by Gill who slipped the ball over the lunging keeper.

Immediately from the restart Adam Hardy pulled a goal back for City when he hammered the ball home past Martin Kearney, but Gill was on hand right on half-time to claim his hat-trick.

Six minutes into the second half, Hardy's effort in the area was handled by Kevin Leighton and Scott Kerr stepped forward to rocket the resulting penalty kick into the back of the net to make it 3-2

Danny Forrest replaced James Rutherford after 68 minutes and as City began pushing forward for the equaliser, Lewis Emanuel picked the ball up in the crowded penalty area only for his shot to go well wide.

The scores were eventually levelled when the home keeper could only watch as Kerr blasted the ball into the back of the net.

The game went into extra time, but the deadlock couldn't be broken and the game went to penalties. Both sides scored their first four, Hardy, Kerr, Lee and Jones being on target for City, and Craig Fishlock kept his nerve to score City's fifth before the unfortunate Ryan Williams saw Worsnop save his effort.

Hardy mises the final through suspension.
