Bradford Bulls 35, Wigan Warriors 24 - Wigan coach Frank Endacott was forced to take his hat off to the Paul brothers as the Bulls provided the perfect response to their Belle Vue horror show.

He knows all about them from his time in charge of New Zealand but it is debatable whether any coach, anywhere, could have come up with a plan to halt the classy half-back pair yesterday.

Henry led the way with a near prefect individual show but Robbie wasn't far behind and produced the highlight of a cracking contest with a stunning individual try midway through the second-half.

Endacott's men trailed 20-0 at the break but battled back superbly to show all the quality which is likely to make them a massive threat come the play-offs. However, they could not keep their unbeaten record intact.

The Bulls, with the Paul's never far from the action, saw to that.

They always had a new trick up their sleeves and no-one could deny them the right to the points and a win which enables them to leap-frog Wigan to take top spot in Super League.

"I know what the Pauls can do and I thought they were the difference between the two sides," said Endacott.

"They were both great. They are unpredictable characters, more so Henry, and it was just one of those games that suited him. I thought he controlled things for Bradford."

The classy stand off made his mark as early as the fourth minute with a great tackle in defence which took the wind out of Andy Farrell's sails and he produced more like it to help keep the Wigan skipper's influence in check for long spells.

It is Henry's ability with ball in hand which really excites and two minutes later he produced a dazzling diagonal run on the sixth tackle which was halted just inches short.

Fortunately for Bulls he had the presence of mind to somehow squeeze the ball out backwards and the fit again Tevita Vaikona marked his return with the simplest of tries.

Henry, on his way to another 100 per cent kicking effort, landed his first two goals but the Bulls rode their luck a little as first Kris Radlinski was caught high by Stuart Spruce with the line beckoning and then Farrell's pass to the Wigan full-back was ruled forward.

But there was nothing lucky about the Bulls response with Jamie Peacock showing just how effective he can be with a little more time to get into his stride and Leon Pryce roaring on to his sweetly-timed pass to gallop away down the touchline for a breathtaking try.

And with the Bulls forwards really starting to dominate there was more reward as Shane Rigon showed great presence of mind to pick himself up after Paul Johnson's initial tackle and dive over with replays confirming he wasn't held.

Even at 20-0 down Wigan were still a threat and it needed a great double tackle by Stuart Fielden and a much more determined looking Scott Naylor to deny Steve Renouf just before the break.

The Bulls went for the jugular on the re-start but it backfired with a string of errors simply handing Wigan the initiative and two tries in quick succession through Terry Newton and Matthew Johns brought back memories of the Warriors memorable revival from 19-2 at the JJB last August.

But the decisive moment in a helter-skelter second period then saw Jimmy Lowes regather Henry Paul's back-spinning kick-off deep in enemy territory.

Then with the Wigan defence still trying to re-group Henry Paul found Daniel Gartner with the sweetest of passes and the head-bandaged Aussie did the rest.

Brother Robbie had no intention of being outshone though and brought back Wembley memories from 1996 as he eluded a clutch of defenders on half-way, side-stepped Wes Davies superbly and withstood a despairing late challenge from David Hodgson to score under the posts, pictured.

Even then though Wigan weren't finished and got back within two scores again with Davies and Adrian Lam darting through a tiring Bulls defence.

But they were spared the possibility of another cliff-hanger when Francis Stephenson plunged over only to find out that referee Russell Smith had already pulled the Bulls up for offside.

Noble still has work to do before they do battle with Saints and won't be happy with number of errors they made in the second half.

But it was 100 per cent better than what was offered up at Wakefield and heartening to see the likes of Naylor and Rigon boosting their confidence ahead of potential key cup final tussles with messrs Iro and Newlove.
