A support group for women who have suffered domestic violence at the hands of their own children has launched a poster campaign to encourage more battered mums to speak out.

A support group was set up after the Telegraph & Argus revealed exclusively the anguish of a mother suffering repeated attacks by her own teenage son.

She spoke out after being subjected to years of abuse and feared she or her younger children could be killed.

The group, ATTACK - Action to Take Steps Against Children Kicking Off - was created after another mum in a similar situation read the article and decided to take action.

Now ATTACK, which holds fortnightly meetings, has launched a poster campaign to highlight the taboo subject and help those who could be suffering in silence. The posters will be put up around the city.

A spokeswoman for ATTACK said: "This is obviously a big issue and there are many, many women who are suffering but don't know where or who to turn to.

"I have suffered domestic violence from my son and know I am not alone.

"The message is that there is help out there."

The recently-formed group has already attracted the attention of the national press. As well as interviews for Radio Four's Woman's Hour, the group is set to feature in a Dispatches documentary for Channel Four and will forge links with a similar group in Liverpool.

She said: "We have had a lot of media attention from most of the country. We have done some magazine interviews and radio but the most interesting is this documentary. It will really raise the profile of this type of abuse."

The group meets every fortnight at the YMCA, Dorset Street, Bradford.
