Farsley Celtic 3, Ossett Town 1(AET Full Time 1-1) -

Farsley Celtic lifted the West Riding County Cup last night in an incident packed evening at the County Ground at Fleet Lane Woodlesford.

Celtic were reduced to ten men after just 15 minutes but were rescued by two penalties from former York City striker Ian Blackstone. One took the game into extra time and the other sealed their win.

"What a way to win the cup," said drained Celtic boss Martin Haresign, who guided the club to the trophy in his first full season in charge four years ago.

"It was a fantastic performance by the lads and the best team won. Down to ten men we defended well, played on the break and found the extra bit in the tank for the extra half hour, words fail me.

"They didn't score until five minutes from the end and I thought our chance had gone after all our hard work. But 'Blackie' got us back in it and we were the better side in extra time."

Earlier Damien Henderson threatened to cost Celtic dearly with his early indiscretion. Having felt the weight of a hefty challenge he retaliated and was rightly dismissed.

From then Celtic were on the back foot but defended well until Town's player manager, ex-Halifax Town striker Gary Brook, broke the deadlock five minutes from time.

From the re-start Celtic went straight on the offensive and when Blackstone was brought down in the area, he got up to net the resulting spot kick.

Skipper Paul Stevenson then headed Celtic in front from a cross in the second period of extra time and when James Nestor was later fouled Blackstone capped the victory with a second penalty.

Eccleshill United gained more ground in the Northern Counties East Premier Division when they earned a point from a 1-1 draw with Sheffield at Plumpton Park after the visitors had been awarded a disputed penalty two minutes from time.

Dave Elvidge had headed United in front from Stuart Waite's 59th minute cross.

Mark Price was adjudged to have fouled a Sheffield forward in a crowded area and Jamie Buchan was so incensed by the award of a penalty that he was shown a yellow card for over protesting before Mick Godber netted from the spot.

Liversedge went down 3-0 at high flying Alfreton Town in the same division. Adam Fretwell gave the home side a 16th minute lead and although understrength Sedge battled well they were eventually outgunned by goals from Craig Housley and Caine Cheetham in the second half.
