Gardner Trophy

at Horsforth

ONE hundred and sixty-two members competed for three titles on Saturday. These were the W R Gardner Trophy, The W M Walker Trophy and the Lombard qualifier.

W R Gardner Trophy (0 to 15 handicap) - 1, D Oldroyd (9), 35 points; 2, D Armitage (12), 35 points, best back nine; 3, M Thorpe (4), 35.

William Walker Trophy (16 to 28) - 1, G O'Sullivan (16), 41 points; 2, P Midgley (19), 40; 3, G I P Wood (20), 38, best back nine.

Lombard qualifier is G O'Sullivan, who will play at Pannal Golf Club accompanied by a Horsforth professional on May 23.

The Bank Holiday Stableford was played on Monday with 64 entries.

Division One (0-15 handicap) - 1, M Hunter (3), 37 points; 2, S Ryan (5), 36; 3, I Wallace (11), 35, best back nine.

Division Two (16-28 handicap) - 1, M Johnson (24), 35 points, best back nine; 2, G I P Wood (20), 35; 3, N Kemp (21), 34.

Thirty-seven ladies played in a Club Stableford competition incorporating The Marie Curie competition.

Club Stableford: Division One - 1, J Howson (18), 30 points; 2, J Greenwood (17), 29; 3, M Leddy (18), 27.

Division Two - 1, M Gardner (23), 30; 2, B Payne (23), 30; 3, M Wales (27), 28.

Division Three - 1, K Kershaw (31), 32; 2, D Waite (33), 31; 3, P Forber (31), 30.

Marie Curie - 1, K Kershaw; 2, M Leddy; 3, P Hartley.

There were 30 entries for the April Medal and Winter Scratch. Results:

Division Two - 1, A Croft (21), 77; 2, J Walker (30), 79; 3, M Gardner (23), 81.

The Winter Scratch was won by B Wallace.

There were 20 entries for the Bank Holiday Stableford competition.

Hollins Hall

Masters event

FOR the second consecutive year the Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel and Country Club, near Baildon, is staging the Marriott Masters, a unique event to win a coveted place in the prestigious Compass Group Open Pro-Am on June 6, at the Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel and Country Club, Warwickshire.

This open individual stableford competition will be held on Monday, May 14, and provides a superb opportunity for all golf enthusiasts to compete for a round of golf with one of Europe's top golfers in this all-important Ryder Cup year.

The day includes a lunch, Marriott gift, prizes for the leading players and an exclusive golf break offer at any one of the 11 Marriott Country Clubs in the UK.

Entry to the competition is a special reduced rate of £25 and Marriott Hotels will donate £2 to every entrance fee to the Golf Foundation.

The event has a maximum handicap limit of 18 for men and 24 for ladies and proof of handicap must be submitted on the day.

The lucky winners will compete with one of Europe's leading professionals alongside three fellow amateur over the 7,145 yard Championship Arden Course which has played host to six PGA European Tour events.

The format for the Pro-Am day includes gifts on arrival, team photograph, buffet lunch and the all-important prize presentation evening.

Otley Golf Club

SATURDAY saw 135 players taking part in a three team stableford competition at Otley Golf Club, with the best two scores to count.

The prize-winning teams were: L Coleman (7), C Toft (6), C Wheeler (16), 87; R Tillotson (10), R Oxtoby (19), J Snodin (19), 81; T Mowat (11), T Cook (18), R Mowat (12), 79; I E Walsh (15), C Walsh (19), T Walsh (13), 78.

On Easter Sunday 30 pairs took part in the Easter Mixed Greensome, an annual medal competition organised by Graham Walker.

It was typical Easter weather, sun, rain and hail. However, it was an event enjoyed by all, particularly the apres golf, rounding the day off.

The prize-winners were: Janet Ellison (28), Jeff Snodin (19), 64.5; David Payne (6), Shirley Thompson (20), 68; Graham Walker (11), Andrea Walker (22), 68.5.

Bracken Ghyll

Ladies

The Addingham Bracken Ghyll Ladies played the first round of the County Foursomes Competition on a lovely sunny but breezy Tuesday with run on the ball which was welcomed by all.

Three teams now go through to the second round at Bingley St Ives on June 20. They are Lorna Riley and Pam Newman, Shirley Dyson and Sue Stones and Hazel Walker and Eveline Coomb.

The April Medal was played on a very cold damp day with several ladies braving the conditions. Winner was: Hazel Walker (71) with Chris Knowles (77) second.

With winter hopefully behind us and the opening of the new 18 hole course in June club members are all looking forward to a Sunny Season.

For all you ladies who really must have that new golfing outfit (or maybe two), there is a fashion show tonight, Thursday, in the Bracken Ghyll clubhouse at 8pm. Everyone is welcome and clothes are courtesy of John Hammond of Ilkley

LOCAL golfer Ann Newman is reserve for the Yorkshire Ladies team which will play the Yorkshire Men's team on her home course at Ilkley Golf Club on Sunday, April 22. Players will tee-off at 9.30 am for a day which will see six foursomes and 12 singles played as the teams prepare for their season.
