Shipley and Saltaire are set to become world-class centres for hi-tech industries in an exciting initiative.

A series of regeneration blueprints for Shipley, Bingley, Keighley and Ilkley has been unveiled by Bradford Council, which could boost jobs and investment opportunities across the district.

A meeting next week is set to approve the initiative which calls upon the support and knowledge of local partners, including businesses and residents, to provide their town with a vision of the future.

Councillor Simon Cooke, executive committee member for the economy, said: "These exciting proposals aim to recognise the unique economic conditions within each town and provide the foundations for delivering the district's 20/20 Vision of a brighter economic future."

Saltaire and Shipley have long played an important role in the district's economy with electronics giants Pace Micro Technology and Filtronic leading the way.

Bradford district accounts for more than 30 per cent of all jobs in the region's electronic industry and 60 per cent of these are located in Airedale.

Coun Cooke said: "The economic growth of Airedale and the Shipley/Saltaire corridor is a key element in the delivery of the district's 20/20 Vision for a more prosperous future.

"To achieve lasting success we must move away from a piecemeal development approach and take a more long-term view which meets the need of developers, external funders and businesses."

Coun Cooke said the successful regeneration of the area would create countless jobs, new homes and bring wider benefits for businesses in Shipley town centre."

If approved, the proposals will be presented to local town centre partnerships and area panels in the summer.
