MUCH-NEEDED sports facilities could be on their way to Pool-in-Wharfedale.

The village Recreation Ground Management Committee (RGMC) has submitted ambitious plans for single storey side and rear extension to the changing rooms at the back of the village hall off Arthington Lane.

RGMC chairman Ted Joce said it is hoped that the new changing rooms will replace the existing ones, which would then be converted into general rooms for community use.

He said: "Both the football and cricket club have had great success on the field, but because they are playing in higher leagues, their facilities need to be better.

"We now have to provide changing facilities with a shower for referees and umpires as well.

"The facilities are well used but past their sell-by date. Hopefully these plans will offer improved

facilities to go with the other changing rooms at the bottom of the fields."

Mr Joce said a number of funding options were being considered, and it is hoped that Redrow Homes, which is currently building more than 100 houses at Swallow Drive, may donate some building

materials.

"We usually don't hold our meetings on a Bank Holiday, but at the last meeting we found that only one councillor would be away so decided to go with that date," said Mrs Swift.
