A Birstall restaurant has been burgled only days after two members of staff were found dead in their Bradford home.

La Dolce Vita in Middlegate was targeted by thieves who stole cash and pulled a cigarette machine from the wall.

The incident happened between 1pm on Wednesday and 2pm on Thursday. The thieves got into a flat above the popular restaurant by removing a metal grille from the window and climbing through.

They took a screwdriver from the flat and climbed through another window to get into the restaurant. There, they took £30 from the till and removed the cigarette machine. The screwdriver was discarded at the scene.

La Dolce Vita has been closed since Tuesday due to the death of Italian nationals Ciro Carola, 26, and Fulvio Dalpozzo, 41, who were found lying dead on their backs in front of a blaring television.

The pair, who shared the flat in Flockton Avenue, Bowling, but were not related, both worked at La Dolce Vita.

Post mortems were carried out on the two restaurant workers and further toxicology tests are being carried out.

The restaurant opened to the public yesterday. A restaurant worker, who did not want to comment on the week's incidents, thanked people for flowers and thoughts.

"We just want people to come into the restaurant and enjoy themselves once more," he said.

"This is a happy carefree place and we want to move on from what has been a terrible week."

lBradford police have arrested two people in connection with the investigation into the deaths of two Italians. The man and woman, who are both local, were later released on police bail without charge, pending further inquiries.
