Farsley narrowed the gap at the top of the First Division to four points after victory at bottom club Brighouse - their fifth successive triumph.

It was one of three Spring Bank Holiday matches in which rain-affected pitches produced some low scores, Pudsey St Lawrence, Brighouse and East Bierley being bowled out for less than 85.

Australian pace bowler Andrew Downs took six for 35 and Ashley Close and Tony Gilks, two each as Brighouse were dismissed for a mere 80 in 30.4 overs.

Farsley knocked off the runs needed for victory in 22 overs, with opener Stewart Smith unbeaten on 36 to leave Brighouse with only one point from their seven matches and the only First Division club without a win.

Leaders Pudsey Congs were held to a four- point draw at next-to-bottom Gomersal, but there was a major upset at East Bierley, where Yeadon won by four wickets after bowling out the home side for only 84.

It was the second defeat of the weekend for Bierley, who were in second place before they lost at Farsley on Saturday.

Yeadon's principal wicket-takers were John Roper (4-43) and Craig Thornton (4-21), but Bierley made them fight all the way as quick bowler Jaffer Nazir took five for 43 in 13 overs.

Spen Victoria's eight-wicket win at Pudsey St Lawrence was another big upset and took their tally to a maximum 12 points over the two Spring Bank Holiday matches.

Australian Grant Lambert was again the match-winner, taking seven for 39 as Pudsey were bowled out for the day's lowest First Division total - 77.

It followed his six-wicket haul in their 23-run home win over Gomersal on Saturday.

After his fine bowling spell, Lambert then demonstrated his all-round ability by scoring 39 not out as Spen knocked off the runs needed for victory in 21.2 overs.

Hanging Heaton, who are now in third place, beat Cleckheaton at home by ten wickets after dismissing for 117.

Nick Summerscales was their most successful bowler, taking six for 54 in 19.1 overs, and then openers Steve Foster (54 not out) and Steve Bartle (52 not out) both scored half-centuries as the home side cruised to victory in 25.5 overs.

Congs were the day's top scorers with 212 all out at Gomersal. Yorkshire's James Middlebrook was top-scorer with 45, other useful contributions coming from Naveed Rana-ul-Hassan (39 not out), opener Andy Bethel (35) and captain Matthew Doidge (33).

Gomersal's resistence was led by No 3 batsman Chris Schofield, who hit ten fours in his 67. He came in at 23 for one and was seventh out at 150.

He was well supported by skipper Bradley Parker (30) as the home side closed on 154 for eight following a 50-minute delay for the sun, the match finishing at ten minutes to nine.

Baildon took four points from a drawn game against Bradford and Bingley at Jenny Lane.

Opener Simon Davies (45) and Richard Robinson (43) were the top scorers as the home side totalled 211 for seven.

Bingley lost openers Martin South and Carl Sharp cheaply, but the match was nicely poised as they recovered to 101 for three.

However, they then lost teenager Haroon Rashid for 36, Mark Best followed eight runs later and, after Craig Cockshott retired hurt following a blow on the jaw, Richard McCarthy (34 not out) and captain Pat Fordham batted out for a draw at 151 for five.
