Television celebrity Rolf Harris has created a special tribute to a little Bradford boy who died of cancer.

A studio door from the set of BBC1's Animal Hospital was painted by its star presenter Rolf and donated for an auction in memory of Harvey Rhodes, of Thornton, who died just before his fourth birthday in January.

The auction, held at the Hill Top Inn in Thornton in memory of Harvey, raised £4,000 for children's cancer charity Candlelighters.

Australian Rolf donated a door which he had painted with a likeness of Harvey surrounded by animals. The TV personality got involved after he was asked by Harvey's father Tim if he would support Candlelighters by contributing to the auction.

Rolf told the Telegraph & Argus: "It is tragic that Harvey is no longer with us, but I hope at least I was able to help towards raising funds to combat this rare condition."

As well as Rolf's door, the pub auction featured other top prizes including signed England, Bradford City and Leeds United football shirts.

Fundraiser Mel Tingle raised around £1,000 from having her head shaved during the auction.

Carol Schofield, whose husband David is licensee of the Hill Top Inn, said: "To say we were overwhelmed by the prizes is an understatement.

"Rolf's door was put in the auction by Harvey's dad, Tim. He was working at the television studios where Animal Hospital is made and asked Rolf if he would be kind enough to donate something for the auction.

"Rolf came up with the door which is wonderful.

"Obviously it was very personal to Harvey's parents so when it came up for auction David - who took on the role of auctioneer - made sure, with the approval of our customers, that it went to them for its full reserve price."
