An 'air of tranquillity' has been brought to a Bradford school thanks to the reorganisation programme.

Heaton Primary School, in Haworth Road, now boasts a new 40 place nursery with internal and external play areas and interior alterations and refurbishments to the main school.

Head teacher Beverley Ledra said: "The new nursery and the refurbishment to the existing school building has already had a positive impact on pupil and staff well being. Children can now move around the school more easily as there is more space, which has resulted in an air of tranquillity throughout the school. The access to the library and IT room has been significantly improved.

"I am looking forward to utilising our new facility and believe the environment enhances educational provision and will have a positive impact on standards. I am also pleased that the first impression visitors now get is one of quality."

The work was carried out by Bovis Lend Lease, appointed as Bradford Council's managing partner for the reorganisation programme.

Richard Hickman, head of programme for Bovis, said: "Heaton primary joins schemes at Eldwick, Cooper Lane, Cottingley, Newby and Parkland, which have recently been completed. We are now in full swing with a significant flow of schools due for completion this summer."

Diana Cavanagh, Bradford Council's Director of Education and Schools, said: "We are pleased work has been completed at one of the larger primary schools in the district, providing facilities far superior to those on the previous site. This has allowed the staff and pupils to have access to excellent educational opportunities to improve standards."
