Holidaymakers from Bradford still face uncertainty, despite the end of a strike by coach drivers in the Balearics today.

At airports around Britain passengers who should have boarded flights on Saturday are still waiting to leave after departure times were put back until today. The 72-hour strike, which ended last night, caused chaos for British travellers going to Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza, with delays averaging five hours.

There had been fears the strike could be extended, but sources in the region told the Federation of Tour Operators, which represents 90 per cent of the market in the UK, a deal had been agreed which meant the problem would not recur.

The end of the strike provided little comfort for Les Thomas and his family who were to fly to Minorca from Leeds Bradford Airport last Friday. After delays the family were bussed to Manchester and put up in a hotel, only to be told the next day they would not be going on holiday.

Mr Thomas, 55, retired, said: "I should have been on holiday by now but instead I'm back home. Leeds Bradford Airport was okay because it was small and staff dealt with you on a one-to-one basic, but Manchester was chaotic.

"Airtours has given us a letter saying we will get our money back but I feel annoyed because I'd booked to go on holiday and I wanted to go on holiday."
