Dutch striker Michel Evans will be given the chance to stake a claim with Bradford City.

The 24-year-old has been invited to join the Ban-tams for a pre-season trial after his contract ran out at VVV Venlo.

Evans was recommended to City boss Jim Jefferies by Robert Molen-aar's ag-ent during talks to finalise the defender's new deal.

Jefferies said: "I've had a look at a video of Michel. He is a quick striker with an eye for goal.

"There's no harm in getting him over here for a look. He's out of contract so we might as well give him the chance to see if he's any good."

Evans, whose father is American, scored six goals last season as Venlo finished bottom of Divis-ion One in Holland.

In five years at the club, he has notched 30 goals from 159 appearances.

City return to training on Monday and should he do well, Evans will be allowed to feature in the three tour matches in Northern Ireland later this month.

Australian Dino Menn-illo will also be in the party - with the incentive of earning a contract.

The left-sided midfielder, who helped Wollongong Wolves to a second successive title Down Under, spent a fortnight with City at the end of last season.

He will return to Engl-and for pre-season and has been promised an incentive-based deal for one year.
