A police officer attacked his partner's lover after stumbling in on the pair as they were having sex, a Court has heard.

Hull Crown Court was told yesterday that West Yorkshire officer Erroll Bogle, 42, hit Tom Wright after seeing him kneeling over his naked girlfriend Leanne Berry at the couple's home in Howgill Green, Bradford.

Bogle denies unlawfully wounding Mr Wright, 33, on October 31, 1999 and intimidating him as a witness on July 22 last year.

Opening the prosecution's case, Martin Rudland said that on October 31 Mr Wright, 33, was drinking at the Brown Cow pub in Wyke when he met Miss Berry, 38.

He said: "Mr Wright got talking and the conversation developed into a sexual nature.

"He asked her to go home with him but not before she had told him the relationship with Mr Bogle had now ended."

The couple arrived at Miss Berry's house and as they began to have sex Bogle walked in, wearing just a pair of white boxer shorts.

Mr Rudland told the hearing the defendant ordered Mr Wright to leave, adding: "Wright said all right and was just getting up off his knees to his feet when he felt a blow to the side of his face.

"He then felt a blow to the top of his head, he felt pain to the right hand side of his face and blood trickling down.

"Wright left the house and went straight to Odsal Police Station where he gave a statement."

Mr Wright told the court he had known Miss Berry for a couple of years and was aware she was Bogle's girlfriend but said the clear intention of the pair was to have sex.

Mr Rudland said Bogle was also facing a charge of intimidating Tom Wright.

He said on July 22 last year Mr Wright was in the Brown Cow pub when Bogle and Miss Berry walked in.

He said: "After ten minutes Erroll Bogle came across to Tom Wright and said 'when this is all over I am coming back for you'."

The case continues.
