Charlton could be lining up a move for Matt Clarke after Bolton dropped their bid to sign him.

His agent Ian Elliott today revealed that a London-based Premiership club had been in touch over the transfer-listed Bradford City goalkeeper.

Charlton are the most likely chasers as they look for a strong competitor for current number one Dean Kiely. They had a £2 million offer for Finnish international Antti Niemi rejected by Hearts last week.

Bolton had been expected to make a move for Clarke who impressed on loan at the Reebok last season, helping them to win promotion through the play-offs.

But Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has now switched his attentions to Norwegian Thomas Myhre at Everton.

Elliott told the Telegraph & Argus: "I spoke to Sam yesterday and I don't think it's going to happen with Matt now.

"He did well there and I'm surprised Bolton haven't pushed the boat out to get him. Myhre is one of a number of keepers available but none are better than Matt.

"But there has now been some interest from another Premier-ship club in London. They have come in during the last few days so we're waiting to see if anything will happen there."

Kiely missed a chunk of last season with a groin injury and back-up keeper Sasa Ilic - whose error led to Benito Carbone's superb lobbed goal on Good Friday - has been told he can go.

Clarke is currently on holiday in Los Angeles and is not flying back to England until Saturday.

If no deal is struck in the next few days, he will join his former City team-mates for pre-season training on Monday.

Elliott said: "His position at Bradford has looked untenable but at the end of the day he has got two years to go on his contract at the club.

"Matt is a professional and if nothing else happens, he will definitely be there for training. I don't see a problem with that."

City boss Jim Jefferies was back behind his desk at Valley Parade after his summer break.

He said: "There are a few players we will look into but I'm not going to rush into anything."
