The Bingley-based manufacturers of Damart underwear have teamed up with Super League champions Bradford Bulls to create a trendy new 'base layer' for the players.

Designers are working on a training kit for the squad which will retain heat and prevent muscle injury.

And thermal masters Damart - traditionally associated with frumpy winter undies and Long Johns - have also fashioned a collection of groovy undergarments to keep Bulls supporters warm on the terraces.

Spectators will be able to sport the insulating T-shirts with matching bottoms for their rugby league heroes' game against Australia's Newcastle Knights in January.

Designed at the Lime Street headquarters in Bingley, the fitted black or white tops and cycling short-style undies are embroidered with the Bulls' logo and are available in adult and children's sizes.

Damart marketing manager Jim Crosbie said the new range would enable fans to withstand the winter freeze while watching their team warming up on the pitch.

"People want to be warm and comfortable while watching a game. This range will go under their Bulls shirt and will keep out the cold without a need for a coat," he said.

Damart's devotees include include explorer Ranulph Fiennes and pop stars Geri Halliwell and Kylie Minogue who have been seen in their trendy 'Shopgirl' range.

The company will be launching its new range at the Bulls shop, in Broadway, Bradford, on Monday from 2 to 4pm.

Bulls marketing and sales manager Debbie Charlton said: "We are excited to be working with Damart as they are such a big international name. The designers are talking with our head strength and conditioning coach Carl Jennings about the new training gear which will keep the players warm and dry."

The garments are made from thermolactyl, a man-made material which traps pockets of air to precent body heat escaping.

l Bulls fans will be able to cheer their heroes on Sunday when they will leave Odsal stadium at 2pm in an open-top bus to arrive in Centenary Square at 2.15pm for a civic reception.
