Spectacular fireworks displays are destined to light up the night skies in a mass celebration of Bonfire Night.

Events are being held throughout the Bradford district starting tomorrow, with charities set to benefit from a host of displays.

Emergency services are doing their best to ensure the activities are enjoyable but are encouraging people to put safety first, especially by confining fireworks to displays and not setting them off on streets.

Bingley Round Table is putting on its annual display on Saturday in Myrtle Park, a tradition dating back to 1967.

The bonfire will be lit at 7pm with the first of the fireworks being set off 30 minutes later.

Admission cost £3 for adults and £1 for children with under-fives free. Proceeds will be given to charities in the area.

The Telegraph & Argus Bradford Can... Cancer Research Appeal will benefit from proceeds from a fireworks extravaganza at St Anthony's Church, Clayton, beginning at 6pm on Sunday.

Admission is free and plenty of refreshments will be on sale.

People are advised to bring their own fireworks and proceeds raised will help boost the appeal fund.

An opera singer is due to grace the display staged by the Bradford Bulls at Odsal Stadium on Sunday.

Jeffrey Tresswell is one of the extra attractions at the display, along with a feast of other live music.

Free car parking is available at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre, Rooley Avenue.

The fireworks begin at 6pm and are due to end at about 8pm. Admission costs £3 for adults and £2 for children.

Community groups are also staging a series of displays over the weekend.

Holy Trinity Church Scouts and Guides will have a party at its headquarters in Netherlands Avenue, Low Moor, on Saturday at 6pm featuring the usual tombola with lots of prizes and refreshments.

Bonfire night celebrations will take place at Brighton Street Working Men's Club, Heckmondwike, from 6.30pm tomorrow with pies and peas and refreshments on sale and free admission.

St Mary's RC Church, Cottingley, and St Monica's, based in Wilsden, are holding a joint bonfire night tomorrow from 7.45pm in Cottingley. Pies and peas will be available.

Birkenshaw Liberal Club has its bonfire night on Saturday from 6.30pm with free admission. There will also be a children disco between 2pm and 4pm and one for the adults in the evening with DJ Bob Icke. Food and refreshments are also available.

Birkenshaw Scouts and Guides hold a supervised event at the side of St Paul's Church, Bradford Road, from 6.30pm on Saturday. Admission costs £3 per family or £1 per head. Sparklers, glow sticks and refreshments including parkin will be on sale.

Hepworth and Idle Cricket Club is hoping to boost its funds with a bonfire night on Saturday starting at 6.30pm. The fun will be at the cricket ground, in Westfield Lane and proceeds will go towards the club's pavilion fund.

Hightown Sports and Social Club, Halifax Road, Liversedge, has a 7.30pm to 8pm start earmarked for its fireworks display on Monday.

Sutton-in-Craven bonfire and fireworks display will not be held as previously advertised at the former Thompson Field, Holme Lane. Due to foot and mouth, the new venue is Sutton Park and the fun starts at 6.30pm on Monday.
