A victim of a road-rage attack today told of his terror and appealed for witnesses to help police trace his attackers.

The 23-year-old, who would not be named for fear of reprisal, said he was suffering flashbacks following the incident in Manchester Road, Bradford, when his car was damaged by Asian youths in a red Vauxhall Astra van which had forced him off the road.

The insurance worker from Leeds, who was driving a green Volkswagen Golf, said the attack happened after he and the driver of the van got out of their vehicles to confront one another at about 5.20pm on Tuesday, September 25.

He described the driver as an Asian male, aged 25 and 6ft tall.

"He just kept shouting abuse and swear words at me," said the man.

"Then he started to kick the car, so I got in it and shot off because I was in fear for my life."

He said he stopped again to phone police, and after speaking to officers drove back to Manchester Road, near the junction with St Stephen's Road.

He pulled into a lay-by to wait for a recovery truck. It was then he was attacked by another group of Asians.

"Thankfully I managed to run over and get help and the attackers fled," he said.

"There were lots of people who saw what happened and I need them to help the police track the people that did this."

PC Rory Hepburn, leading the investigation, appealed for information on the van, registration G207 UND.

He said a written statement would be taken from witnesses when the vehicle had been traced.

"The vehicle details have been circulated at briefings and leads are being followed up after a call to Crimestoppers," he added.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on (01274) 376459 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
