A 22-year-old man has been jailed for eight years after police seized more than £100,000 of drugs from a house in Bradford.

Ajaz Saddiq's fingerprints were on some of the heroin recovered from the property in the Lidget Green area of the city 12 months ago.

A jury at Bradford Crown Court found him guilty of possessing heroin with intent to supply. The total value of heroin found at his friend's house was worth over £118,000. Crack cocaine found in the bathroom was said to be valued at more than £17,000.

But he was sentenced for possessing with intent to supply just under £68,000 of heroin which had been hidden in the lounge.

The two-day trial was told how police carried out a search on a house in Ellercroft Road.

Prosecutor Nikki Peers said that after the items were recovered, Saddiq's DNA was found on a face mask which contained heroin particles.

Saddiq, of Waverley Road, Bradford, denied possessing heroin with intent to supply.

He also denied possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply. But after legal arguments, the judge directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict on that charge.

Saddiq said he was wearing a face mask while he was clearing rubbish from his friend's house. Asked by his barrister Tim Stead if he had seen any heroin in that house, he replied: ''I have never seen heroin in my life.'' He added he could have unknowingly touched anything in the property. Asked if he had been cutting heroin up from large blocks, he replied: ''That's a complete lie.''

Judge Angela Finnerty said the offence was so serious only a custodial sentence could follow.
