Dougie Lampkin won his first and last trial in this country this year when he rode his Radson Montesa to victory on Boxing Day in the Bradford Motor Club trial at Howden Wood, high above Silsden, beating Scorpa importer Martin Crosswaite and G.P. Beta team rider Ben Hemingway.

"I was beaten by one mark last year by Graham Jarvis, and in the same trial. Because of the foot and mouth epidemic I have not ridden in a British outdoor trial at all since last year, last Boxing Day to be exact. The win warms me up for Sheffield Arena," said Dougie.

The trial attracted a round dozen national or international class riders, including all the Lampkin family - John, Harry, James and Dougie as well as cousins Dan and Ben Heming-way and Haworth's Wayne Braybrook, winner of the last Scott Trial, and new Dirk Bike Rider magazine official trials machine tester Dan Clark.

Unofficial national Class B Youth champion James Dabill won the Youth class from Guiseley's Edward McIntosh.

Martin Crosswaite won the Darwen M.C. trial at Read, near Sabden, from Haworth's Wayne Baybrook and Team Scorpa rider Dan Clark on Thursday but the Bingley rider's hopes of a double were foiled by GP Beta rider Ian Austermuhle who made the best performance at the Yeadon and Guiseley M.C. trial at Dob Park on Friday.

The Dob Park trial was the major post-Christmas contest in the county and featured over a hundred competitors from most parts of the north, in fact David Henley travelled from Dorset to compete in the trial.

Cookridge youth James Dabill won Class A youth from rival Dane Sherwin while Connon-ley's Graham Abbey took the Clubman category by one mark from James Percival and Ray Sharp.

Liversedge brothers Scott and Jay Stephenson contrived, by chance, to finish on equal penalties, that result will produce some family rivalry in the next few days.

A 50 year link with Harrogate Motor Club and the Yorkshire Centre ACU ended with the death at 72 of master butcher Roger Milner at his Harrogate home on Saturday morning.

He was the first winner of the Horsforth club's Basic Memorial Trial; first ever winner, in 1950, of the very national, coveted achievement award The Pinhard Trophy; and a former member of the county's trials team in 1950.

Roger also made history by winning a Bradford Motor Club Group Trial , with a broken arm, and on a borrowed Matchless machine.
