In its first year as an independent school, Bradford Grammar School has continued to flourish despite the pressures. Running the school on a day-to-day basis has been like coping with the stringencies of a business, said the headmaster, Mr. David Smith, at the annual dinner of the Old Boys' Association, attended by many who had been at the school in its direct grant days.

A blocked culvert under Altar Lane, Bingley, and the silting up of surface water gulleys caused extensive flooding at the Brown Cow Inn today, penetrating most of the downstairs rooms. The cellar was flooded to a depth of nearly 3ft. Mr. A. Haslock, the Council Water Engineer, said the floodwater was from Milner Spring, which was not used for domestic purposes during the winter.
