Bradford Park Avenue fans are being asked to stump up £5 a week each to take the club back to top flight football.

Supporters of the Unibond League side are being urged to put up the cash to fuel the club's ambitions to return to League Football.

Chairman Frank Thornton, now aged 70, believes the future of the club, which dropped out of top flight football 32 years ago, lies with the fans.

"The financial structure of this club has been sufficient to see it through up until now," said Mr Thornton, who shares a controlling interest in the club with vice-chairman Bob Robinson.

"But if we are to progress to a national standard of football then things need to change. Relying on a sugar daddy or a big name sponsor is unreliable.

"Players change, managers change, grounds change and chairmen change, but supporters stay with the club through thick and thin.

"It is these people who should be offered a controlling interest."

At a meeting to be held in the social club at the Horsfall ground at 7.30pm next Thursday, he will lead discussions about the re-financing of the club.

Mr Thornton, who works in Oxford, said: "My heart will always be with Bradford, I grew up with the club, but if we cannot find 200 fans prepared to back the club's future, then I will have to reconsider my position.

"We have no overdraft, we don't owe money, but we need this to happen for the club to go forward and achieve our ambitions."
