Nicky Law has launched a £200,000 raid for Chesterfield duo Ian Breckin and Jamie Burt.

As Robbie Blake closed in on a £1m switch to Burnley, Law made his first move in the transfer market by going back to his old club.

The City boss revealed in Yorkshire Sports 12 days ago that he is an admirer of 25-year-old centre-half Breckin, the highest earner at cash-strapped Saltergate.

And the Bantams have also bid for rookie striker Burt, who has played only three professional games.

The 21-year-old starred for Whitby in their FA Cup run this season and scored in the 3-2 first-round replay defeat at Plymouth.

Law took him to Chesterfield five weeks ago and Burt only scored his first senior goal on Saturday against Oldham with a brilliant individual effort. Law said: "He's been a revelation since coming down from Whitby."

Blake was today continuing talks at Turf Moor and a deal could be finalised in time for him to make his Clarets debut at home to Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Law said: "Robbie's a good player but it's no good keeping someone here who feels his future is elsewhere. If you do make him stay you aren't doing anyone any favours.

"Burnley have been chasing him for about 12 months, obviously the player knows that and sees it as a good move for him. I don't want anyone here who doesn't want to be."

While City wait for Chesterfield's response, Law has made it clear he will not be spending all the Blake cash.

Chairman Geoffrey Richmond said the money will be available for transfers but Law has no plans for a spending binge.

He said: "There is no need to rush and blow it all for the sake of it. There is not an endless pot of money.

"There are going to be a lot of players available in the summer so if we can stabilise between now and then, we can look to change things around for next season."

Law has dismissed speculation that he is lining up a loan bid for Aston Villa's 19-year-old German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger.

He said: "I had the lad on loan when I was at Chesterfield but have certainly not spoken to anybody at Aston Villa about bringing him here.

"Anyway I couldn't even if I wanted to as we already have two players in on loan at the present time."
