Guiseley Reserves 5

Leigh RMI 1

IN their first game since November 23 Guiseley Reserves stormed into a 3-0 interval lead with an excellent all round team performance.

With manager Brett Ferriday away in America veteran striker Steve Daykin had control of team matters and as ever was an inspirational leader. He won virtually everything in the air but too often his young colleagues failed to read his wily headers and failed to take real advantage of his dominance in the air.

Phil Atkinson opened the scoring and was then instrumental in the second goal. His trickery led to him being brought down in the box and Lee Reilly stepped forward to slam home the penalty.

This was the fifth successive game in which Guiseley's leading scorer had netted and he went on to complete a hat-trick.

An excellent crossfield pass by Daykin found James Elliott out on the right wing and he completed the move by going forward into the penalty area and unleashing a fine shot to take his side in 3-0 up at the break.

Reilly netted his second and Guiseley's fourth early in the second-half.

Guiseley then replaced Simon Tweddle with Mark Exley and Guiseley conceded a goal to a good strike.

Daykin then made way for Richard Machell who moved into midfield with Steve Hall moving up front to take over Daykin's role. Machell played some exquisite through balls for his strikers and Reilly wrapped things up with his 14th league goal in eight league appearances.

Guiseley Reserves are still potential title winners in this league but still have a lot of hard work to do with current leaders Morecambe having played six more games than them.

Currently Guiseley share third place with Southport and Marine on 30 points while Chester City are second with 38 and Morecambe top with 45. All have played more games than Guiseley.
