A plan to close a Bradford estate library to save the council money, recenty described as a "penny pinching scheme" by a councillor, has been scrapped by Bradford Council's cultural activities panel. The closure threat facing Swaine House Library was opposed by all three councillors for Bolton Ward Coun Fred Lee, Coun Tom Hall and Coun Edward Wooller.

Comments on the number of cases brought before the courts in Bradford were made last night by the Lord Mayor of Bradford (Ald.Horace Hird). He was speaking to the Bradford branch of the United Commercial Travellers' Association. "The number of cases before the magistrates is appalling. There is such a tremendously large number of offenders dealt with in the daily courts - we have three every day - that I think you will agree that there is a greater need now than ever for better citizenship".
