Plans to build a 40-bed residential home and 38 close care flats at the former Threelands Grange residential home in Birkenshaw look set to be approved by a planning committee tomorrow.
LNT Construction Ltd has applied to Kirklees Council's planners for permission to build the home and flats at the junction of Mill Lane and Bradford Road. A report drawn up on the proposals by planners recommends that the work is approved with conditions attached.
The new residential home would be a three-storey block along Bradford Road. A two-storey block of 38 care flats would also be built on the site. It is proposed to use natural stone and concrete tiles.
Threelands Grange, which housed 36 residents, closed early last year because of moves to bring all care homes in the country up to the same standard.
At the time of Threelands' closure, Birkenshaw's three councillors said they hoped that those who were relocated from the home would have the first opportunity to return to the new home once it was built.
