A project aimed at promoting healthy eating by providing fresh fruit and vegetables has been hailed a success following its launch in Shipley.
Councillor Tony Miller (Lab, Shipley East), manager of Bolton Woods Community Centre, said the centre's first Food Co-op session, run by a team of volunteers, had sold out within hours.
He said: "Healthy eating can reduce instances of heart disease and cancer.
"Fresh fruit and vegetables are a key part of a healthy diet but can be expensive. Whole sections of the community are therefore excluded from such a diet both because of expense and lack of information about the benefits.
"But the future looks bright for the scheme and we thank all those who have supported us during the setting up process.''
The next Food Co-op was being run at the community centre in Livingstone Road from 11am today and is to be staged at the same time and venue every Wednesday.
