Garforth Town 1, Bradford Park Avenue 2: Park Avenue snatched an injury-time winner to reach the last four in the West Riding County Cup as Lee Potter came up with the magic as they evaded unwanted extra time.

The home side finished with ten men after James Knowles was sent off in the second half for a second yellow card and Avenue boss Trevor Storton was left livid by what he saw.

"Some of those tackles would have been out of place in a rugby match," fumed Storton. "When you play a side from a couple of division below you expect it to be a bit robust, it's their cup final and they are desperate to win. In games like this you need a strong referee and unfortunately we didn't have one.

"He let a lot go early on and that caused the problem. The lad who was sent off should have gone in the first half. We are just glad it's all over and that we haven't had any broken ankles or legs.

"We should have been three or four up in the first half but have won it in the last minute with Potter's header. It's one of those when the result matters and how you get it is immaterial. The players were concerned about their safety, we're just thankful that it's all over."

Avenue took the lead in the 15th minute from the penalty spot after a handball by Simon Collins. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Martin James stroked the ball home.

Garforth came back into the game and former Burnley striker John Francis caused the defence problems. For Avenue Keiron O'Brien missed two golden opportunities.

Avenue must have expected an easier second period after battling against the strong winds in the first half but two minutes after the interval Garforth were level from an individual effort from Francis. He picked the ball up near the halfway line and surged through before placing a 16-yard shot out of the reach of keeper Rob Montgomery.

Just after the hour Knowles, who had picked up a booking for a foul on Paul Wharton, followed through on Montgomery and was dismissed. The Avenue keeper needed treatment on his knee but was able to continue. With extra time looming, Potter netted a header from point blank range at a corner.
